Goals
- Apply principles of effective visual design for print and electronic presentation, including hierarchical, chronological, and spatial arrangements. [CLO 6]
The Task
What I Want You to Do
Apply one of the organizational strategies from Markel & Selber’s Chapter 7, “Organizing Your Information,” to your technical description. Explain the structure you have chosen and why it is appropriate, and then create an outline of your description that shows the strategy you are using.
Why I Want You to Do It
There are many organization patterns that you can use. The trick is to know which pattern works best for what kind of project and when one project ultimately requires more than one pattern. By completing this activity, I want you to practice choosing a strong strategy and then demonstrate how you have applied it in your text.
How You Do It
- Read Markel & Selber’s Chapter 7, “Organizing Your Information,” and pay attention to the ways that organizational strategies are typically used. TABLE 7.1 Organizational Patterns and the Kinds of Information You Want To Present should be helpful here.
- Determine which organizational structure best fits the technical description you are composing.
- Create a document in your word processor for your answers.
- In the document, do the following:
- Write several sentences that explain the organizational structure you have chosen and why it is appropriate for the topic of your technical description.
- Outline the information you will include in y our technical description in a way that shows the structure you have chosen. Your outline does not need to be overly detailed. Simply show the sections with an indication of how they fit your structure.
- Submit your document:
- Submit your project here by 11:59 PM on Friday, April 2.
- If you need more time, submit your document by 11:59 PM on Monday, April 5.
