Your Label Analysis provides an examination of a food or beverage label to determine how it works as a technical document and how well it meets the measures of excellence. You will include specific details from the label and relevant photos that show all sides of the packaging.
Length
The length of your label analysis depends upon the item you choose, since the number of photos you need and the amount of information on the label will vary.
Checklist Requirements
You are focusing on analyzing a the labels on a food or beverage package. Your Full Draft Submission should meet the criteria below:
- Meets the requirements for the food or beverage label (see #1 under How You Do It on the Assignment page).
- Uses the provided Label Analysis Form.
- Replaces all of the temporary information in the form so that none of the instructions remain.
- Has a specific title that indicates the purpose of the document (pp. 198–199).
- Introduces the document with a short explanation of its purpose (p. 110).
- Includes specific subheadings for each section of the document (pp. 199–201).
- Includes photos of all sides of the food or beverage package, avoiding any distractions in the background or foreground. Images are numbered and labeled. (pp. 337–338).
- Refers to photos specifically both for the analysis of characteristics and for the analysis of excellence.
- Provides detailed analysis and description of information on the label, using the first table in the form and the Characteristics of a Technical Document (pp. 9–12).
- Assesses the excellence of the food or beverage label, using the second table in the form and the Measures of Excellence in Technical Documents (pp. 9–12).
- Concludes by summarizing the major points of the analysis, explaining how the label is (or is not) a technical document and how well it meets the measures of excellence for a technical document (pp. 9–12).
