Assignment Learning Objectives

After working on this assignment, you should be able to:

  • Identify the key design or accessibility features present (or missing) in a published document or website.
  • Explain how specific design choices affect a reader’s ability to understand and use the content.
  • Apply established design or accessibility principles (e.g., visual hierarchy, plain language, accessibility standards) to evaluate a webpage example.
  • Evaluate the overall effectiveness of the document or website, using evidence to support your judgment.
  • Recommend specific, practical improvements based on your evaluation.

Success Tips

  • Think like a reader. Identify anything that makes the page harder to understand, scan, navigate, or use.
  • Look beyond grammar. Watch for wordiness, jargon, vague language, and unnecessary complexity.
  • Test the headings. Do they clearly show what each section contains?
  • Find buried information. Look for details that should be grouped, listed, or moved.
  • Check accessibility. Examine links, headings, capitalization, structure, and other barriers.
  • Explain the impact. Say why the problem matters and how it could be improved.
