You’ll collaborate to create an audience profile for the person who can decide whether to implement the recommendations in your report.

Connect with the members of your group and decide how you will divide the tasks for this Try-It. Each group member must lead the work for one section of the form.

How This Activity Connects to the Course

The rest of the term, you will focus on group projects. In this Try-It, you’ll gather background material on the person who can decide whether to implement your recommendations. Here are some of the ways you’ll use this information:

• Use the details in the Audience section of your Proposal.
• Decide on persuasive arguments and language for your Proposal and Recommendation Report, using the “Relationship to the Topic” and “Apply Your Audience Profile” sections.
• Choose a hook for the Recommendation Report that will draw the Audience in, using ideas in the “Apply Your Audience Profile” section.
• Include specific details from this Audience Analysis in your Recommendation Report (such as using the name, title, and address in your Letter of Transmittal).

How to Do It

Preparing for Your Week 08 Group Meeting

1. Connect with the members of your group to arrange a meeting time that fits everyone’s schedules. You can meet using whatever system works best for your group. Here are some possibilities:
   • Gather in a Zoom or Teams meeting.
   • Post ideas in a Canvas Group Discussion. The following links can help you:

   • Meet in person on campus or another convenient location.
2. Before you meet, review the Recommendation Report Audience Analysis Form, choosing one of the options below:
   • Download Microsoft Word file
   • Make a Copy of the Google Doc version (File menu » Make a Copy)

During Your Week 08 Group Meeting

3. Meet with your group as scheduled and arrange the work for this activity. You should be able to assign sections quickly. Alternately, you can collaborate during your meeting to fill out the form together.
4. Choose a group member to keep minutes for your meeting, using the information on the Meeting Minutes Format page to record your group’s decisions.
5. Complete the tasks listed in the Week 08 Meeting Agenda. As you work through the items, record your decisions in your Meeting Minutes.

After Your Week 08 Group Meeting

6. Group Leader: Make an Announcement in your Group doing the following:
   • Title the Announcement: Week 8 Meeting Minutes.
   • Add any notes from the Minutes that you want to highlight as important.
   • Attach a copy of your Week 8 Meeting Minutes.
   Placing this information in an Announcement ensures that everyone has access to the minutes and the decisions that your group has made.
7. Submit your completed Audience Analysis file as a PDF here once everyone in your group has completed their designated section(s).

Assessment

I will assess group members individually based on their participation. To earn a Complete, the section of the analysis you are responsible for must be filled out fully. I will mark your work for this Try-It Complete (or Incomplete) after the end of the Grace Period passes. Allow me several days to read and mark your work.
